Okay, yeah, so I'm a graphic designer with a small company, 4.5 years with them... I'm pretty much their senior designer, though I'm not sure if they officially classify me as such, since my review was a year and six months late, and even when I got it, I was handed a sheet with comments and my new 'raise' was noted already. No discussion. Just 'We'll go over it later..' and that was 4 months ago. I didn't really get a chance to say 'Hey, more cashola, please!' but anyway... that's not my main beef today.
My main beef is bosses who take 4 vacations in 2 months and don't do a lick of real work when in the office. Bosses who take loads of new projects from clients, then go on vacation and leave it all up to me to get it all done in an ABSURD amount of time. Bosses who look at your work for 5 seconds, say 'Good, send them a PDF.' and then when you're ready to send it to the printer they say 'Why is that line there?? That looks stupid, change this, change that, blah blah blah.' Bosses who heap loads of responsibility on you and when you come through, don't say 'Hey, good job.'
Or even 'Thanks!' Bosses who make you walk their stupid dog daily. Bosses who give you multiple huge all consuming projects that need to all be finished, signed off on, prepped and sent to the printer on the same day. Bosses who take advantage of their employees, don't appreciate, or pay them enough, and still expect them to have a sunny disposition. Bosses who say 'I'm leaving for an appointment, I'll be back in an hour.' and then return smelling of coconuts and appearing 4 shades tanner. Bosses who go shopping while you design your little heart out and hold the fort down.
Okay, rant - end. Maybe not.
I'm not usually this frazzled, but I had a HELL week with 750 people calling for this and that, PDFs flying wildly all over the place, 11 posters to England, dealing with clients who say 'You can do this (absolutely stupid and unreasonable request) right, Chris?' And when you say 'I think so' they say 'Wrong answer!' 'Okay, I will see what we can do.' 'Wrong answer!' 'Yes!! We can definitely do it.'
And only then are they satisfied.
I don't mean to sound like a work-hating rotten employee. I love my job, well, my field. I'm just disgruntled with my current job. Anyone out there think that I'm being unreasonable, and my ranting is just stress..? Would any of YOU like to walk a dog that isn't yours daily? :P
