    Hi,

So I was wondering if any of you are part of graphic design meet up groups on meetup.com I joined a graphic designers meetup group in my area when I got to the states and it's been really nice for networking and finding people close to home that are into the same stuff.

People meet up regularly and show work and discuss stuff over a beer or a coffee.

It's morphed over the past year or so as the current organiser is a printer and designer, so he's been able to fix up clients with designers in a few cases.

Just thought I'd mention it here as it's been a great experience for me and you can look up all meet up groups in your area and if there isn't one then you can express interest in forming one if others are interested too.

The only down side to forming a group yourself is that there is a small fee that the organiser pays that they can ask members to put a dollar or something towards. Our organiser has arranged a sponsor for our group that pays the fee .

lol at aiga...such an ineffective group, 'cept for the Mbulance thing they sponsered for louisiana...that was actually quite nice. Problem with them is the costs are far to high with to little return

oh well, professional groups are quite nice from what i hear, and some are even worth the paltry dues paid. Business groups like BNI and your local chamber of commerce would be good for looking into to find a variety of businesses.

Meetup is good if you want people in the same field. I think you could also find groups on myspace, if that site ever worked right

I am considering joining my local chamber of commerce, it's a hundred bucks a year and they meet once a month. Might be a good networking thing I thought, one of my clients is a member.

There is one of those here in Toronto for GDer's. I haven't joined but may in the future. I am just too busy for it now, but it looks good.

My wife and I joined a Meetup to meet other new couples to the Toronto area and its worked out great. Have some good friends out of it.

            Thanks.

I took a look at luxe -- looks good. Looks like it's digitally printed -- would that be as good as litho or letterpress?

Engraving sounds interesting. I'll look into...

Similar, but more expensive and classy, is engraving. Combining an ultra-minimalist, bare-bones design with something as elegant, tactile and expensive as engraving can really have a nice, exclusive,...
