  • Don't target Mid size companies

    #1
Today i was told that my efforts of reaching mid size companies is a waste of time, because I simply do not have employees or an office. I would simply be ignored.

I was told to target small startup companies.

Is there a truth in this?

Not at all... Sometimes a one-man-band can blow a few performers out of the water if he/she is well organized and able to work out thoughts completely on his own.

Don't let them get to you. You will run into a**holes every once in a while. Let it roll off your back and move on. Think of the troubles they would have given you had they wanted to use you! lol

not at all. My company is Very small (two of us and a few freelancers). Yet we have just finished with a Very Large Multi-Billion dollar company account. We didn't make billions, but with the right talent, luck and pitch you can do pretty much anything.

Well, the person was a friend of mine but not in graphics or business.

Before you 'shoot' at any target, look through the gun sight. It's never been easier to 'do your homework' for job application with so much more contact info circulating on line these days. Find out what kind of opportunities exist before hand-- better still, take a staffer to lunch and fish for details, if the potential is very good.

                      (I'm free Thursdays)

Our company has 8 people in it total, including 3 print designers, 1 web dude and one who does a little of both. I'm literally in the middle of making a pdf of a translated selling guide for a MAJOR international high-end cosmetics company.

All companies large and small can benefit from some graphic design services. Even the ones that have their own art department. Sometimes they get swamped and send some projects out to external graphic design studios. Like us!

It's that run-off or even when they want to try something outside of their normal routine that will always allow opportunities.

And my advice is practice your answers for why it doesn't matter that you're a one man band, if you think that the question may come up. You'll feel more confident just thinking that through.
