  • Acceptable approach when delivering cover letter, resume, etc. in person?

    #1
I'm applying for my first graphic design job outside of free-lancing. I plan on printing my resume on a thick card stock, but should I also do that with my cover letter? That would seem a little tacky handing two thick pieces of paper, so should I print the cover letter on normal paper and the resume on card stock?

Furthermore, what is the most accepted way to deliver this content? Stapling them would seem unprofessional. Paper clipping could be better, but I'm hoping the cover letter doesn't get lost with the resume. Beyond that, I don't know any other way.

I also have a business card I designed for contact convenience, but I'm not sure if I should attach that with the cover letter and resume. Perhaps it would be better to save the business card as a takeaway for an interview?

    What do you all recommend?

How about creating a folder for your resumé and cover letter. And the fold up flap could have 2 slits for inserting the business card.

      ^What Hank said.
You need to flip through some stationery and office supply catalogs or maybe even one of the big gang-printers' websites to familiarize yourself with what's out there. That's part of your job. Knowing what's out there.

I'm not sure if I would print my resume and cover letter on cover stock, that seems a little too heavy. I'd go with a nice 70-80# text. MAYBE 100# text, but no cover weight. Unless you're doing some weird folds and cuts. The idea of the paper clip above stapling could be a really good idea. If you have a certain color in your branding, try to find a color relatively close to it. I'm guessing Fort Wayne IN so I'm sure you have an Office Depot or Staples around you that I've seen color paper clips at. There's also probably a paper shop around you too. The one around me as a huge selection of paper and envelopes (I guarantee if you call a wedding planner they'll know exactly where to send you).

You can give who ever your business card just incase. I never have so to tell you if it's overkill is beyond me. I've just handed my cover letter and resume with references, and brought my portfolio book.

You could also do a hole punch and get some eyelets and attach them. Simple click assembly. Keeps pages together, and looks kinda fancy.

You get them in crafts shops or things like that.

The curvature continuity "smoothness" of the shoe shapes needs to be cleaned up.

The problem you're facing is one I face all the time. The easiest solution is to create a clipping path in photoshop. You haven't missed any steps, it all starts because transparencies and spot colours...

Adding my thoughts to the pot:

            - Kerning needs attention.

            - Why have tiny illegible type especially with a big blank space at the bottom?

            - Font chosen...
