I really need to get a portfolio together. I am a graphic artist, can paint and draw. What do people look for?

Starfox, every possible employer will be different in what they are looking for. If you can, do some research on the place you have an interview with, and if necessary, customize your portfolio to suit them. So, having said that, make one that can easilly be modified at your end, so nothing too fancy that will require hours to adjust.

I have found that if you take quality hires foto's of your artwork and make your final portfolio all in the same stock quality prints (A3) within a proper 'foliolder' it looks professional. Allthough I must say that having the odd pencil sketch does have that authentic feel... Also having final samples of package designs should also be impressive.
