    #1
    Hi,

I have 3 images that I need converted to Spot Color asap. They are single color images... They are of a business card, letterhead, and envelop, that need to be converted from CMYK in PSD to Spot Color 349 in EPS for thermography printing. I have the illustrator , photoshop software but I dont have nay idea how to convert them..
    Please helpp..

A single colour image? I'm thinking it's one colour plus black making it a duotone, right?

If so then, change the image to gray scale first. (Image > mode > Graysclae)

Then go back to the Image menu and chose duotone this time (Image > mode > Duotone)

Change the drop down menu from monotone to duotone. click on the empty box (right below the black box) and just type 349 or whatever colour you're looking for. 349 is a dark green btw.

Why on earth are the business card, letterhead and envelope in Photoshop format? They should be in vector format. What resolution are the files? Will the small type be legible?

If these images are already a single colour - as you have stated - then there isn't a problem. When the plate is made - or whatever is the equivalent in thermographic printing - they can just use the Pantone colour and not black when the printing is done.

This question reminds me of one of the questions I made up for a 'So you think you know prepress' test I once devised for our hiring. It's amazing how many people responded with the more complicated methods and overlooked the obvious. Ocram's razor-- it's sharp as ever.
