For graphic design - experience and self-taught
Worked for newspapers late 70s/early 80s for about 4 or 5 years
Stayed home for about 18 years raising and home-schooling my children but had computers and tried to keep up (somewhat)
Worked for newspapers in early 2000s for about 2.5 years
Currently doing graphic design (a copy place and freelance) and pursuing more art/design education in both formal classes (watercolor, technical drawing, Graphic Design and Layout 2) and self-taught (Total Training for Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign) and I read - a lot - until lately when I discovered GDF - and now my addiction has to be fed several times a day. : )
I am 47 and not old yet

Hopefully, more real designers will answer you - I'm just a designer wanna-be.

If it wasn't for the last minute nothing would ever get done.
(When I grow up I want to be just like Keyare! He does excellent work - even when he's trying to not to.)

Yum. I do love salmon sandwiches. The bakery near me do great smoked salmon bagels. It's not a bagel shop so they don't jack up the prices.

It won't stay this way ... but, they have to get all the bugs worked out first and then we will worry about cosmetic issues
