  • Your Favorite Graphic Design Book

I know this can span a wide variety of topics, but I'm curious what your favorite design book is.
My focus is branding and logo design, but trying to build a library of design books.

    I appreciate any recommendations!

(I am having trouble with the website and searching so I'm sorry if this has been asked before)

    Thank you!

I read the Grid Systems: Principles of Organizing Type. So as for my it's very cool book. Printed with semi-transparent overlay pages. Super informative. If you want to be a designer, get it.

Graphic Style, From Victorian to Digital, by Heller and Chwast.

Also, everything else by Steven Heller.
Some advertising layout book from the 50s that I got once at the library.
      Various type specimen books.

People will believe anything, which means I will believe anything…I want to start believing in things that have shapeliness and harmony.

You can look at pretty pictures all day but if you don't know how to produce them, you only know half your job.

This is a little old, but still relavent

A good book is Logo Modernism by Jens Muller. It will be helpful for design. I hope it can inspire you!

If you haven't already checked it out, a good typography-focused book—arguably the typography book—is The Elements of Typographic Style by Robert Bringhurst.

Since your focus is on branding and logo design, I bought Logo, Font, and Lettering Bible by Leslie Cabarga awhile ago and it's really good. Making and Breaking the Grid and the book Rexus mentioned, Grid Systems: Principles of Organizing Type, are both great for learning and understanding grids and hierarchy.

These all seem quite generic looking to me, but a lot of people do want these generic looking logos. For me the top one is the best of the lot.

I would adjust the tracking to increase space...
