Jeff not only has served on-line as an excellent virtual-mentor for hundreds, if not more, designers and design students for many years, he's committed much of his career to continually provide practical and sage advice through conference seminars, articles, and this, his latest book. I'd suggest you start with that and see where it gets you.

Jeff even drops in here (and just about EVERY where there's an on-line graphic discussion forum!) now and then--so I wouldn't be surprised if he'll chime in with more great advice for you as soon as he reads this thread.

Jeff knows the business, and he knows design. And he's a real generous 'giver'. Actually, when you start to look around a bit, you start to realize that there are quite a few of these folks out there. Giving back to the industry that by and large, has a reputation as being filled with great, generous people sharing their trade secrets.

Some think too much openess will somehow 'cheapen' our market value, relative to other more tightly regulated and certified professions. But I think it highlights an encouraging and newly emerging work reality, where design skills are really being recognized as intrinsically valuable to business and creative. The very nature of our work demands that we share our thoughts and build collaboration in order to fully realize the best solutions to communication problems. Is it any surprise then that so many of the top successful designers so generously share their expertise with others starting their journey?
