  • How do I get this effect?

    Hi there,

    First time post.

    I really like the effect on the striped header of this website. Does anybody know the best way to mimic it?

    There's a couple different ways. One is to just make the stripes as needed - tedius and takes a long time. The other is to make an abstract with a bunch of brushes - dots, squiggles, what have you - or a high contract photo. Then select one pixel by whatever width and crop. Now create a new image the size you want and fill with the "one pixel by" - there ya go - stripes.

    What program do you use? And I'd be able to give more specific instructions if need be.

      In terms of software, I'm using Fireworks, Illustrator and Photoshop.

          Okies, a quick Photoshop tutorial for the stripes is now on my site.

          I learned this one awhile ago from some other obscure site, that seems to have lost itself in obscurity.

          I haven't used Fireworks, and only used Illy to create a few book covers, so not much help there.

                or you could use the offset filter in photoshop and set to 'repeat edge pixels' then just crop it.

                  Here is one method you could try.

                  Use a gradient in photoshop

                  Select a gradient, go to gradient editor,

                  Gradient type: Noise

                  Roughness 100%

                  check the add tranparency option

                  Move the color sliders and hit randomize a few times till gou get something you want.

                  Then drag the gradient accross the field

                    That desired effect just screams Illustrator to me. The blend tool set to "Specified Steps" would serve you well here...

                      Exactly Garricks. Personally I don't think she would but I've learned you can't really trust anyone. That's what I did, I set the pdf options to crap, non-printing security on it and sent it directly...

                      What is it you're worried about, that she'll take the PDF and bypass you for printing? When i send stuff (other than to my vendors for production) I always use smallest file size. Looks fine on screen...

                      Securing them will work. You can decide whether or not to allow printing.

                      However, if someone really wants to bypass the security on a PDF, it's pretty simple to do.
