You have a PDF. You want to work with this PDF in illustrator, so you open it (in illustrator). The problem is that the PDF had text in a font you don't have installed. So you can't see the piece properly

But after all, when you open the file as a PDF, you SEE the text in the proper font it was supposed to. So the information is in fact in the PDF.

The question is: Can the font be converted to path and then be opened nicely in illustrator?

Of course I can make a snapshot of the font and re-trace it by hand... but that's not the idea, as the information is already in the PDF.

If you have the full version of Acrobat do a save as, choose eps, click the "options" button and select "transparency flattening" ... then chekct he box that says "convert all text to outlines". If you open the .eps in Illustrator it should work, but it gave me the font warning even though it had been converted.

    See if that works.

In theory that has to work! But in my pc the problem still arises. Strange...

When you open it in illy does it tell you what font is missing? As far as outlining fonts, never done it AcroPro, I embed them, but you need the font to do that. Maybe you can find a font that's similar and replace it.

We don't have any controls over that I'm afraid. I can certainly mention it to the higher-ups though ...

They're plastered all over a forum that is pretty much strictly for graphic designers though. It kinda seems like an inappropriate place to stick them. Just an observation, not a whinge.

          Hi Eldain,

I'm new to this too, but I wanted to chime in. I only looked at your front page though.
