  • I'm No Bricklayer

    #1
Hey everyone. I am illustrating what will look like a little city for a project I am working on. I need to make a bunch of downtown, brick buildings look somewhat realistic.

Does anyone have any good ideas on how to make tiny brick? These are mostly older buildings with red brick, washed out and faded red brick.

    Any Ideas?

Mmmmmm...... gulp. Thanks for the tuts Morea. I will give this a shot. The problem might be the size that I need them to end up at. I'll try it though.

Yeah its a pretty cool project PB, challenging, but fun.

          much bigger or much smaller?

Seems like some of the techniques might work even at really small sizes... hope it helps some, anyway.

Let us know how it goes!

Right now I am working on a freelance project for one of the local brewerys in town. I had the labels forwarded to me and I was blown away with the detail in these vector images. One of them has a brick building in it so photorealastic it's scary. I will take a closer look at the file tonight and see if I can borrow some tips for you. No promises though, the files have been outlined and expanded, so picking through them is kinda a pain in the ass.

                Ok. Problem solved.

These bricks need to be soooooo small that all of that other stuff was going to be too much work. I found a way to make the noise filter work for me.

                Thanks for the suggestions though!

I imagine there's all sorts of fan art out there in this style for inspiration. You already have the banner templates, so just find an interesting way of using them. It doesn't have to be overly complicated...

Good points, although I'm unsure how to correct this without starting it all over from scratch and scrapping the whole idea. I'll have to think about it.

Yes, I got the general idea from my copy of Gulliver's Travels.

I had hoped that I could convey the seasons with the colors and leaves, with the greens representing Summer and Spring and...

Unfortunately I don't have access to any other programs, gah. Question about crop marks...are they necessary? This may sound like a silly question, but for the invitations, the design itself is very simple...
