Upstairs inside my head I class fonts in categories. In the Serif category I remember this face because of its pointy serif, and I remember its name mainly because the Ss look like a Boa Constrictor that...

Are you the guy in the photo? I noticed Raviv in both names. C'mon, fess up, are you a musician trying to do your own cover?

I can see that the text it blurred - I don't have a problem with that - but is it my imagination or is the image also blurred around the text? I think I would like it better if the image beneath the text remained sharp. If it's supposed to be 'glowing' a little, I might bring that out more. I'm also not sure if this really says much about the music - by itself, I would guess pop, but the image is a little too relaxed to make me think it's dance-y (I think I made that word up). Otherwise, it's a great start!

The blur on the Raviv looks good (being larger text), but the two lines of smaller text above and below should remain sharp.

PS, I listened to your music on MySpace, and it sounds good!

          Mockup CD Cover

I did a quick mockup for style. You should stay away from centering, and use the photo itself to create drama. You will see how I used the white area to make the text really POP.

Good advice so far. Nice redesign Gene.

My impression: the photo gives me the sleazy yuckies and the pink text make me think gay. I'm not homophobic, but is this the target market you were going for?

Oh yeah, I forgot, heaps of straight guys are into pink now...metrosexual right?

Yes, Gene's redesign looks much better. It takes the photograph's composition to mind much better in the text placement.

I like what you did Gene!
                It does look better.
I think I would prefer "RAVIV" over "raviv" though.
                No color to the text?
                Thanx,
                Raviv

Hey look! Gene's redesign is on myspace:
                  http://www.myspace.com/httpwww1myspa...fmc2idca80960c

Had a look at your myspace site. I think the photo of you wearing a black hoodie is much more interesting than the photo you have used. The pose is unique and the fact that you aren't squinting at me is more attractive. Use that photo for your promo pic - not the porno topless shot.

....just had a thought...Are you using this as a CD cover or just a myspace avatar?

Because CD covers need to be high res and generally have a 2 spines a back and something on the inside front cover. Sometimes even something on the inside back cover....not to mention the cd design itself...

As I said before, this is for a cd cover and I am I need to pick up the best one until tomorrow.
The reason I posted gene idea on myspace is becasue i wanted to get people's reaction before i'll make up my mind.
I also like better the other photo i posted on myspace, but if you think from a 16 YO state of mind - you might change your mind, like it did.

                        Hey Raviv.

I took a quick listen to your music on myspace. Sounds like you have a very electronic club mix style.... with that in mind.... i have to tell you that I dont get that at all from your cd cover.

Here is my point then... If I am shopping for music in the club/mix section, and I come across an artist that I have never heard of, but his cd cover looks like it belongs in the R&B section, I probably wont buy.

However, If I come across a cd cover that looks/reflects the type of music on the cd, then I am more likely to believe it as club/dance/trance/mix whatever. Also, let the cd cover reflect the music.... people who purchase the cd should get a glimpse of who you are by the music itself... not just by a picture on the cover.

To me (this is my opinion), the cd cover looks like a cross between a country and an R&B cd. Nothing about this cover reflects the type of music within. If I bought this cd simply by what I thought it was on the outside, I would be completely suprised when I put the disc in the player.

how do you suggest i should do then?
what element should i add to this photo to bring it closer to the music, as you mentioned ?
                          any idea?
                          thanks,

Raviv, did you record the music on this CD yourself or have it professionally recorded?
