  • Laying out folding pages in right order

    #1
I want to do something on 17x11 paper where I fold them into four 8.5x11 pages. I may want to do just 4 or as many as 8. I also want to print them out on a desktop printer. Can someone tell me the proper way to do this as far as order of pages and to make sure they print out properly on the printer? If you have a site tutorial that explains it that would be good as well. Thanks.

Fold a piece of paper the way you want it in the end. Number these pages and then unfold. This is your mock up you should be working towards.

Yeah, if you're printing them on your own printer, then you'll need to figure it out in your head how to make the printer spread. For 4-8 pages, this is not a big deal. First spread has 1 and 8 (aka front and back covers), second has 2 and 7, third has 3 and 6, fourth has 4 and 5. That's it. Four pages is only two spreads, front and back covers on one spread, two inside pages on the next spread. Just make sure you do it in multiples of 4. 4, 8, 12, 16, etc...

It's one thing to speak in spreads. It's another thing to impose it properly for double-sided desktop inkjet.

I'm pretty secure in how to number it. It's when it comes to making sure it prints properly and the proper way to staple it if more that one spread (8 pages) are needed.

Print driver, do you know of any tut sites that discuss this?
