  • working for free

I'm not sure if this has been posted before. but its a wonderful read. especially for students and those starting up.

"... would it make sense to ask your mechanic to work on your car for free? Would you look him in the eye, with a straight face, and tell him that his compensation would be the ability to have his work shown to others as you drive down the street?..."

this should be drilled when in school. that your work, however inexperience or newbie you are, has VALUE.

And yes Plantationfarmer, this has been discussed before... I recently had a request from my sister's friend to design a tattoo image for her for free..., when I broached it as you have in your post she she paid up...

Same here. It wouldn't go down well with the hippies.

                        I'd be a dodger.

Not that I have anything against military or other service. I just believe in free will.

I was actually going to join the Naval Reserves when I was younger, but I didn't have my school transcripts.

i was lucky to be posted to emergency services (paramedics, firefighters etc..) rather than the army. armies are primarily killing machines in my opinion. thats why they have guns. more bad than good. =)

think i will go AWOL if they put me in the army.

maybe im a hippy at heart. haha.

I knew a guy from Singapore that worked in the police force. It was an office job though that suited him well

If I had to, I could do with a police office job.

For me the best way to learn most things is to just jump right in and start wrestling with it. When I can't figure something out, I'll look it up. It's not the case with everyone, but for me the frustration...

The resume is well-done and creative, but it instantly pigeon-holes you as someone whose tastes run toward comic book art. This is great if you're looking for employment at a place looking for that kind...

Just got Illustrator and I couldn't be happier, however it seems really overwhelming from the videos I've seen. What is the best way to learn how to use it? Thanks

The ''Goals'' you use are really stale. You are a designer. Of course you are seeking a position where you can use your skills. Otherwise you wouldn't be sending your resume. Instead of stating the obvious,...

You certainly do not have to upgrade to the latest and greatest piece of software to keep up with the printers. We have to buy every single damned bleeding edge upgrade to keep up with designers who insist...
