I'm trying to get an image together to help explain my situation, but let me try to describe it.
I'm creating a logo in Illustrator (and I am fumbling around blind learning everything the hard way). Say I created a circle, filled with black, and put a white letter on top of it. This looks fine, in black and white, on the screen - but in reality, I want to figure out how to make the letter "transparent" with the black knocked out behind it (i.e. when it comes time to create whatever with it in quark, I want to be able to put the .eps over any color or photo background with just the circle around the letter's outline showing).
Does this make sense? Is there an easy explanation for how to do this?
Sorry if it's a dumb question. Illustrator is brutal when you've never had any formal training!
