Hi Bryan,

Well colored vinyl tends to not fade, but finding colored vinyl in exact pantone colors is very hard, so it depends on how complicated the logo is, how many colors, and if you can even do it in vinyl. As for magnetic signs, those are usually printed on vinyl also (adhesive backed) then that is applied to a magnetic sheet, the vendor will usually overlam it with a UV coating and use UV inks....fade can very from 1-3 yrs depending on a number of different circumstances. I say carefully study the pro's and con's of each application...including price, and then go from there.

SlipStream-
Be sure the magnetic sign is legal in your state. It's not in Massachusetts.
You can get a print made nearly the same way and apply it directly to the truck door. Just make sure you get it at a reputable printer that deals in making graphics for autos. The vinyl has a special adhesive that is removeable and won't wreck the paint finish (much).

Or get it printed as an Edge. This is cut vinyl that can be printed in PMS colors first. Some colors are hard to hit though. Ask the printer. Many sign shops have these machines.

Thanks for the info. PrintDriver but it isn't for me, the question came up on another site about whether you could print a multi-colored logo on vinyl or if it would look better as a magnetic sign. I didn't know what the answer might be so I thought of you guys. But I appreciate you letting me know that, the more I can find out about these kind of things the better.

I had a friend who part-timed as a sign maker. He once mentioned that he and others would airbrush on the vinyl applique when a fade or blend of colors was needed. Just a thought.

They said that any design can be printed on vinyl or magnet and then later said that a multicolored logo should be able to be printed on one piece of vinyl.

Yeah, Court, we used to do that airbrush thing too.
Now we either order a solvent print on sticky back vinyl (nice gradient)
or an Edge Print (screened gradient).
Both work.
Real hand jobs are becoming a thing of the past. (pun intended).

In fact you can get gradient vinyl now (very limited color assortment).

For a multicolor logo, it depends how involved it is whether a full out exterior solvent inkjet print is cheaper than a 2 or 3 color vinyl job. Either way, ya still gotta apply it.

Designers who make logos in Photoshop get printed vinyl sticky back prints. Can't do em in Edge or cut em in vinyl stock colors.
