What is getting the metallic color? That will help us guide you as to the best way to set it up. If it's a raster image that's also getting metallic, that's a little tricky, albeit doable. If it's a vector, it's much simpler.

A few solid panels in the interior that flood the color-but I wanted to use the metallic as the second color on a duotone?

Well, if you're using the metallic in a Photoshop duotone, that shouldn't be a problem, then. Your original post led me to believe that you were trying to apply a metallic to a 4-color image, which would require a spot channel, which can be a tricky thing to get right sometimes.

Have you talked to the printer? They're going to be your best bet in terms of setting it up properly for their workflow. While there is a general standard for how this stuff is handled, it's always best to confirm with the printer what works best for them, as there are a variety of workflows out there, and in the end, that's what you want to work toward.

Ok-that does make sense...I did originally have the image as a duotone, but wanted to know if I could bring that into a 4-color layout and still control the 5th color as the metallic? It does sound like an extra channel issue.

I will check with the printer first thing! Thanks!

Well, a four-color layout in Quark is a different thing than a four-color image in Photoshop. If your image is a duotone, and you import it into Quark and see your metallic color listed in the colors palette, you should be good.

Definitely check with your printer though. Good luck!
