i dont have a company logo yet as some of you know for my business which is "Pillar Graphic Design" anyways, I was messing around with somephotos forDeviant Art and applying different signatures to my pieces and I came up with this little gem. Tell me what you think, what should change, if anyone even likes it at all. I will probably change the "pgd" to some other color, maybe do it in black and have CMY going through the middle, who knows still a concept but I wanted to get everyones opinion.

I think it needs a swoosh!

Sorry I just couldn't resist. I like the basic shape a lot. I think I like it better without the colored dots. It still needs something though. Maybe some kind of frame or just a cool littel shape over the P & the G for balance. Just throwing out some ideas. I'd like to see it in black too.

I like the dots. I don't like the lettering all that much though. I think it would be a little hard to read for someone who wasn't aware of the name. All three letters use that same oval for their main part.

Theres my 2 cents.

yeah i feel the unbalance too, thx for the feedback, ryan- its actually one letter P, reversed (for g) and flipped for d, thats why the ovals are the same, but now that you mention it I might do the side ones smaller and maybe try to give it more of a 2d or 3d look. I might make the centers full color, I might try the ovals as squares or rectangles too. Im trying to keep this retro, yet nice and purty. keep the feedback coming, I promise I wont get mad, I just want some ideas.

It's not really jumping out at me,maybe it's the lack of balance? I'd love to see some other solutions. What is the meaning of 'pillar'? There may be something very interesting there...and I don't mean for you to do and actual pillar, but more of a symbol that could represent what pillar stands for. make sense? Try to develop some visual representation for things like: backbone, dependence, guider, leader, light, rock, sinew, strength, supporter, upholder, worthy <--- synonyms for pillar
I feel like your just putting together some arbitrary letterforms now.

Man case where are you when I need a critique. I'm telling you, you and Mike give the best critiques hands down.

D-Frag you should check out that logo trends article in the resource section it will inspire you. But I couldn't add to what Case said if I tried.

'Adventure, Excitement, A Jedi craves not these things.'
'Anger...fear...aggression. The dark side of the Force are they.'

Sorry benjo, I've been crazy busy and it's been tough to find the time to post...

That spark any ideas D? I've seen some of your other work and I know you're capable of producing very high level stuff. Spend some time on concepting it, after all, it's the mark that will represent you and your company...go balls out!

Thank you soooooo much case, that is actually what my original concepts were driven on. If you saw my logo now it actually is a pillar, and my tagline is 'The strength is in the design' I actually came up with the tagline first before the name of the company, so then I thought about what is a strong visual symbol and thats how I came up with Pillar. I will act out some of your synonyms and see what I manage to come up with, the problem that alwasy lies within me is I hate doing stuff for myself, im much better visualizing someone elses company. thanks again guys, I will update soon.

I like the lettering - it's unique. But I'd like to see a logo icon that has more meaning - the dots don't really say anything. And you'll look like a printer if you change it to CMYK.

I really like your tagline, and think that you should design an icon that allows you to keep that as well.

With regards to putting it in black, just be careful as it can get lost when applied to your work. Those two photos for example.........An easy way out could be to frame it within a more light colored background, but that may take away from what you're trying to accomplish with the type. I know that wasn't much in way of offering a solution, just a word of caution. I'm finding myself in the same boat with the type as a sig.

that design with the dots reminds me a bit of the peoplepc logo, all it needs is a smile underneath ... hey a swoosh of sorts!

anyway, i like where you are headed -- simplicity always works best. i'm not too keen on the dots either for the reason stated above. maybe us a bolder font to create a sense of strength and firmness that is inherent in pillars. the kerning also make sit difficult to discern the letters. i was able to make them out, but i knew what they were supposed to be. all-in-all a descent start, but it needs more work ...

It is interesting that the p g and d do share such a common letter form, but I can't say the implementation shown really does much for me.

The three oval parts of the letter kissing like that just serves to obscure the letters, which I'm not sure are terribly interesting in the first place. I could see the RGB colors having some meaning but it's kind of straying from the point. Gven that your company name includes the word 'pillar' in it, I'm unsure why you didn't attempt to literally or symbolically represent that. Creating a monogram for a company name like that is really a missed opportunity in my opinion.
