  • Glossy Black Paper Effect

    #1
    Hey folks,

I am currently am in the process of designing a business card for myself and would like to add an effect that makes it look like a gloss coated business card for display on my website.

I was wondering the what would be the best way to acheive this effect. Once the design is finished I intend to make an image with the card placed on a table, using the the vanishing point tool to give it a bit of realism for the preview image.

The image in question is below :P

You'd need to create the illusion of light on the card if you want gloss. Photoshop makes that easy.

Easiest way is probably just knock down your black background to 95 or 90% black (play with it) and then use a rich black for your artwork with a slight white gradient blur on it. Unless of course your going to print it, then you'll need a spot varnish...

Are they made in purpose that people need to put the glass on to read it?

What you're looking for is a special type of printing called UV printing, which leaves unprinted parts matte and the printed parts glossy, thus causing the effect you're talking about.

Like Reifnu said, you'll have to create some illusion of a reflection. Explaining how to do that is beyond my ability.

There are other things to be considered with barcodes. I deal with them on a daily basis. Line width, quiet zones, and other factors play a big part in whether or not the code will scan.
