  • Embedding fonts

So i'm trying to figure out how to embed fonts when i save my .psd book cover to .pdf. The book cover is in 3 seperate .psd files: cover, back cover, spine.

When you leave layers intact and do not flatten the image, then save it as a pdf, the fonts will embed since that layer information is still there in that single image. But in order to add the 3 files together, i have to flatten the images which deletes layer information. How can i get around this? There is no way to add separate images together that each have several layers, and keep the layers intact, right? So when i add them together they have to be flattened, therefore deleting layers and font information and not allowing fonts to be embedded when i save it in pdf format. Not sure why they need fonts embedded for an image file, but i think Lightning Source requires it. Noob needs some advice.

Why was it done in Photoshop and not InDesign, Quark or Illustrator? Is there any way you can recreate it in an actual layout program? Photoshop is an image editor, not a layout program.

Why in Photoshop? Didn't you order a template from LSI? Highly recommended for newbs.
They return templates in InD, Quark, .eps and .pdf.
They also include instructions instructions for using the template, creating an appropriate PostScript file and distilling a PDF to LSI specifications.

Don't say, "I think". Always read the printer's specs and FAQs. And yes they do need the fonts or your text will be rasterized, not be crisp and clean vector.

As for getting your art unflattened into one PS file, which version are you using?
