  • InDesign - My document keeps going under the menu bar!

    #1
We just got CS4 at work. Now my documents keep going under the menu bar. The only way I can get out is to press the tab key and then bring it back down. Do any of you know why this is happening and an easy fix so it doesn't keep doing it? I'm SURE there's an easy solution - I just don't know one!

    THANKS in advance!

you can try resetting the workspace to default, and seeing if that helps. i'm not sure, though. you might need to reset the preferences for indesign.

CS4 has the workspace setting up in the toolbar, upper right. Your docs should be full screen as tabs. If they aren't try dragging the free floating window up to the tab bar, when you see the blue line it is docked.

They're just a little upset over the new addition. Put down some newspapers, and be patient with them. If you see them going under the menu bar again, grab them and take them outside.

(Just providing a little comic "relief" while waiting for you to report back.)

            lol - Poor documents.

I can't wait to get back to work tomorrow and give these suggestions a try. I'm getting tired of pressing tab, etc. So far I'm not that impressed with CS4 but I guess like anything it will take some time!

Well, for one I tried to reset the prefs by pressing "Command + Option + Shift+ Control" when bringing up InDesign....nothing.

Then I looked for the workspace setting that Kool recommended and I can't find that. What does it look like? I can move my documents all over the workspace and sometimes it goes under the tool bars and that's where I can't get it down because the top of the doc is hidden. Then I have to press TAB to be able to grab the top of the doc again and bring it back down.

              I'm missing something obviously.

              thanks

It's on the right side of the top of the window. I think. We still have CS3 here at work. Or you can go to Window in the menu bar and look for Workspaces...

garricks is right. should be at the very top next to search bar window, but if not, it'll be under your "window" menu at the top.

Choose one. Better yet, once you choose one, position your tabs, windows, etc. where you like it and then create anew workspace (call it whatever you want) that way when your windows get screwed up just re-select your workspace from the list and it all goes back to how you like it.

You can use the N-up feature too to get your doc back.
