It was reported in April Sign of the Times that this guy actually got this printed.
With a great big seam down the center!
It was printed on an OCE Lightjet 500xl at 12' x 8' (max width on this lightjet is 76' so it was printed in two pieces). According to the article it was a 3gb tiff printed with an Onyx Postershop rip. It took a Dell XEON 1.8hx comp with windows xp pro 45 minutes to rip (I wonder if that was each piece) and 26 minutes to print the 'entire' image.
One might ask what is the point of a super high resolution image if you are gonna run a seam right up the middle!!! Also note that it is the first NON-scientific print. I bet NASA has a few large Mars photos around that could rival this...
