  • Turning down jobs?

    #1
Just curious if you ever you turn down freelance jobs? What kinds of jobs and how often?

I guess if you are constantly turning down a particular kind of job, you could learn how to do it, or find someone in your network to refer to.

I don't get asked to do web design very often so I have no problem with turning those down as I can't do the job. But I turned down my first freelance illustration job yesterday. It sounded right up my alley at first, but after I saw the sample, I realised it was totally out of my style and league.

There are at least two reasons to turn down a job.
    1. you don't know how to do it.
    2. it is going to be a money pit.

The first is easy to recognize. The second, not so much.

I turn down jobs out of my respective skill set. Always try to pass the business on to someone I know.
And when I know I don't have the time or the drive to do the job. Just won't be worth it for the money.
For me it all comes down to how prestigious and how much I'll get in return. Unlike at the office I feel freelancing is my choice. so I wanna truly choose.

I very rarely get offered freelance work...but that's mostly because I don't put my name out there for it. I work enough at the office, I don't want to leave work, just to go home to work. That said, when I do receive the offers for freelance, I base my decision on how interested I am in it, and how capable I am for the job. If I can't do it, I'll try to recommend someone who can.

I usually turn down jobs when I know I'm going to be really busy with my day job (usually election time).

Would you do work with a "professional" of any sort that didn't at least have a business card? Even kids that mow lawns in the neighborhood have cards.

Hello nbarbera and welcome to the GDF.

Can you post a screen cap of what you are referring to? It will help us understand better what you mean by "looks crooked".

            PLEASE NOTE:...

I created this flyer and the text looks crooked to me even though it lines up on the grid. I think it's an optical illusion, but I don't know why exactly it's happening or how to fix/avoid this kind of...

What I mean is: select all your paths while in preview mode and post a screen cap, so we can see the outlines and the color preview together.

See this example from another recent thread....
