Hi...I'm not sure how what is the best way to handle this process. I started off creating a company logo for someone, then was asked to create a brochure design. Since the content is still being tweaked, the folks I'm working with wanted to edit the text themselves. This leads me to my question...what file format do you leave the client with?
I thought for the interim, I just imported the layout graphics into ppt, and formatted the text to closely resemble the brochure...that way they can share and edit the file as they need to. I just think the overall look gets reduced to look crappy. (just my opinion).

I created the brochure layout in Illustrator.

And in the many logos I presented as options, they think they want to use two (yes, that's weird I know..) I should charge for 2 logos then, right?

why are you using powerpoint? it's not intended for files that will eventually be printed, just for slideshows -- on a projector. if you designed the brochure in illustrator instead of publishing software, your best bet would be to use pdfs for file exchange.

about the logo question, yes, you charge for 2 logos if they are not the same or similar.

yes, I did originally use pdf to share files...but they actually want to go in and edit the files themselves...they don't have illustrator, they have office...so I have to give them files in a format they can use. I chose ppt because that seems to be what they know...I just wonder how people deal with clients who want to edit their copy themselves.....I

you can edit pdfs to an extent ... i just don't deal with clients that request to make changes to print media, they don't have what is needed for a printer to do their job. of course, one route you can take is to purchase and use pagemaker. it's the cheapest publishing software (microsoft publisher does not count) so they could buy their own copy and you yours. it's just an idea though.

Just give them the word file to edit. I would laugh at a client that wanted to edit work I did. I would be like, hell no. Just edit the text in word and send it back to me. Either that or purchase Quark.

^what they said^. If the client doesn't have the tools, they shouldn't be direct editting copy. You are asking for a world of trouble with the ppt thing.

Ditto to the above. Give them a word file, this way you (and anyone else) can also track changes. They don't need to even touch the original file or be direct editing. If they have a problem with it, ask them if they would like you to sit in and make direct adjustments to their next project.

well ... it's like asking an architect to design a house and asking them for the blueprints in case they want to make changes. these people think that our job is easy .... i guess b/c the computer does all the work, heh.

yeah..thanks for the comments...and when the guy looked at me and said, so if I just get illustrator I can edit myself...I guess maybe it just looks so easy to do?!!

thanks for the reinforcement...sometimes I like to just say, sure go ahead and click on the 'make art' button..and voila...instant art! I had absolutely nothing to do with it.

LMAO! Let him get illustrator. Once he clicks on the screen and nothing happens it should be over. LOL!

Or let him touch the bezier curve tool. Once he see's that it's not what it looks like he should throw in the gloves. Or better yet just lock the work and let him see if he can figure out how to unlock it. LOL!

I imagine there's all sorts of fan art out there in this style for inspiration. You already have the banner templates, so just find an interesting way of using them. It doesn't have to be overly complicated...

Good points, although I'm unsure how to correct this without starting it all over from scratch and scrapping the whole idea. I'll have to think about it.
