  • Japanese restaurant re-think (which three to show client?)

    #1
My initial concept was rejected so I've designed 6 new logos. Three of which I'm gonna show the client tomorrow. Which ones do you like (if any). Be honest.

Thanks for all the positive comments on the one that got rejected by the way.

IMHO, middle left, bottom left, and bottom right. The one on the bottom right is my favorite. Don't know if it was intentional or not, but the 'zen' part being separated gives it an extra kick for me, like 'oooh, this is a trendy new restaurant I want to try.'

Besides, I love sushi. Just no uni, please.

for signage? bottom right and bottom left (if you can de-italicise it a little). i would include top left as an option, too.

      good luck!

yeah...1st choice, bottom left. 2nd, bottom right - THAT's the one that needs de-italicising. but you got that, right?

top left and top right. regarding the top right one i'd put the restaurants name inside the circle aswell.

for the top left i'd personally use a different color combo.

          nice work!

            1. Middle Left (i like that you blured the symbol, really gives it depth)
            2. Bottom Right (too skewed though)
            3. Bottom Left

I like the bottom left, but I like the font of the top left...

uh...i realize the restaurant is called 'ichizen'...meaning 'bowl of rice'.
but what's up with the 'a' hiragana as the logo? it makes no sense.

seriously, when coming up with a logo, make sure it's something that
even japanese speaking people (like myself) will read and say 'hey that's pretty cool.'

otherwise it's like those people that get kanji tattooed to their shoulders and have
no idea it says 'I LIKE EATING GREEN TOENAILS'...they walk around going
OMGWTFBBQ LOOK AT MY UBERCOOL JAPANESE TATTOO IT SAYS POWERFUL PRINCESS

if you come up with the kanji for ichizen (i can do this for you if you like), and replace
the 'a' hiragana in the first logo, i'd say that one would be a definite go.

actually i kinda feel like throwing my hat with a suggestion, if that's not too forward?
i don't mean any disrespect, just kinda giving you an idea...

alright, here's what i was thinking...
(please excuse quick &amp; dirty MSPAINT job, lack of fonts)</div>
also attached is the correct kanji for "ichizen".</div>

I've been told (by the owner) that ichizen means 'set meal for one' and the Japanese sign i used i though was a one (1). Is this incorrect. What is the sign for 1?

                    Thanks

see the first kanji? it's a horizontal straight line. it means 'ichi', or 'one'.

ahh yes, ichizen. it's a very old word, but no one uses it anymore! great choice of name!

waaay back in the day, if you were eating by yourself, you'd shout ICHIZEN! when you came into
the restaurant or bar...that way the waiter would know exactly how much food to bring you...

i'm at home now so if you need any more help, AIM: aerosoulgraphix

xosteve are you part asian cause you seem to know alot about those things?

Also Steve, I'm sorry man I think the one they rejected was so much better that I can't even pic one of these. Bunch of fools rejecting the good one. Makes you wonder if they are going to be successful.

I don't have an account fot that thing. I've sent you an e.mail.

So basically the sign I've used means 'A'? And that orizontal straight line means '1' in Japanese. That will loof terrible in the logos i've designed. Any other suggestions of a relevent Japanese symbol i could replace it with???????

yeah, what you used was "a" in hiragana...not the best choice.</div>
i've taken the liberty of throwing in some relevant kanji into the logo
designs...kinda took your design to show you what to come up with.

the kanji attached is "SHOKU" which means...eat...food...meal, all of those
things rolled into one. i know "ichizen" means "meal for one", but it's a restaurant.
you want obviously more than one customer at a time. so why not use
a kanji that focuses on the food? just a suggestion.</div>
anyway, if you have any more questions, just e-mail me </div>
PS: benjo, i am not asian, but i have studied the japanese language for a while in
college so although i'm not a native speaker, i can read and write fine, and my
conversational skills aren't bad too i just consider it a civil duty to let people know
when they're not using japanese correctly, i see businesses do it all the time and it
                            just kinda seems...fake to me.

I work for a Japanese company. SAKI! IWAN SAKI! LOL!

I couldn't understand them for all it's worth. They probably make fun of us by opening their eye really big and saying stuff like McDonald is great food, or some crazy sh!t.

They are pretty good people in all. At least with me they're cool but it might be the design magic I do for them. They seem to always like the stuff I do.
