  • 2D shapes with specific dimensions?

    #1
Hello, I am new to this forum and new to the world of digital graphic design, outside of Photoshop and was hoping someone here could help me out. I am building paper polygon sculptures and I need to find software that will allow me to create 2D triangle shapes with specific dimensions so that I can create templets to cut out the paper shapes. By dimensions I don't mean the overall dimensions (scale), I need to be able to specify the the individual lengths of each edge of the triangles. I know that AutoCAD allows for this process but it is way outside my budget. Does anyone here know of any other affordable software that will allow me to create and print (at scale) triangles with specific lengths. I am using OS X 10.6 but could find a Windows system if need be.

    Thanks

    Hi and welcome to GDF.

We ask all new members to read the threads posted HERE and HERE. They explain how the forum runs, the rules, frequently discussed topics and our inside jokes.

If you need to make paper templates like packaging, I would use Adobe Illustrator. It's a bit of a learning curve from Photoshop, but it should do what you require.

Get CADtools for Illustrator. Costs money but cheaper than autocad.

However, Adobe has so messed with the code in CS6 they are still developing the plug-in for that version. Supposed to be out any day now...

Yeah, the hierarchy is an issue. The "ITD" and how it is rendered is more feint than the items surrounding it. The illustrations are nice, but unfortunately, not really important. I would not...

Here's my only suggestion, and I'm only giving it to you because this is probably the piece with the most promise that I've seen you post. However if you pull a 180 from this concept I will not comment...
