  • Workflow between designer and client

    #1
I'm trying to get an idea of a good workflow between myself and a client to minimize unpaid changes (extra work), keep the client happy, etc. After meeting/discussing with a client their requirements (assuming you have a contract signed), what is your next step? A rough comp? If they like the rough comp do you have them sign off on it before spending much more time on it to develop it further? This is the type of feedback I'm hoping you guys can help me with.

    Thanks.

It depends on the project. For logos and illustrations, I do a rough comp. But for publications, advertisements, invitations etc I jump straight in and send a pdf proof.

To minimise changes, you need to get a good idea of what your client wants before you start.

^ I agree with Buda... Having a precise scope of work outlining a schedule of deliverables is very important to YOU as a designer if you want to even break even. Especially if you have a "lazy " client ie: one you can't make up their minds ( if they have a brain to begin with ).

Also if you have a client you says to you, they "don't know Art or Design" but know what they like run away fast or have an ironclad agreement ready.

        thirding what buda said.

for publications/advertisements/promotional materials, i talk with the client and create a design brief based on our conversation. they approve the brief, and then i just get started. i have changes built into my contract and stress to the client that they should make multiple changes at once to avoid extra fees.

Your perspective is way off, it looks like it's 100cm long

I think that if you made the faded background image on top a different colour (match a shade of the bottom colour maybe?) the image on the left will work - its actually a nice idea.

The shapes are very confusing. If it hadn't been pointed out that the left side had a running persons silhouette I would never have figured it out. It just looked like some weird shapes to me at first.

I am having the same issues as skribe pointed out above... Also the "last page" function is heavily missed but I assume this is something that you guys are working on. I am fully aware of that...

That's kind of what I thought was the main problem, thanks Red Kittie Kat. I'll be patient, don't worry. :P

It's weird but the multi-page threads were working for me at first, now they are not. But if I click "latest activity" for the thread at the top, it shows me all the pages. Plus if I just add...
