  • Lost faith in Uni

    #1
I have just started my second semester with my University, but, this assessment is to design a book cover... the step by step process.... was in.... photoshop

After reading and posting here, I know this is wrong, and now I feel that the Uni just want my money for teaching me something wrong.

How do I create the design right, I've tried once before in indesign, but couldn't quite get the bleed right.

In InDesign, set up your page at your face dimension. This would be front, back, spine and perhaps inside flaps if it is a dust cover for a hardcover rather than a wrap for a paperback.

In the File>document Setup palette, choose Show more options. There you can set your bleeds.

I give you credit for wanting to do this right. Let us know if we can help.

Is it possible to talk to your dean or tutor about industry standards? You should find out if you have Indesign classes coming up in your course programme

Photoshop might not be the right software to do some posters in, but if this is just the Photoshop portion of your course and Indesign and Illustrator is coming up next in your education, it may just be a classroom assignment. If this is a project to check how well you can use Photoshop, learning and using Indesign is not a good way to demonstrate your Photoshop skills.

Thank you Print Driver, I'm going to give that a go in a flash.

The course covers the creative suite of Adobe, last semester it was illustrator. At the end of the brief, it says to use any software to create the work, as long as it fits the dimensions.

The photoshop step by step showed setting up one page and using rulers to divide it by hand, if that makes any sense..

I'd be asking my professor why the step-by-step is for Photoshop. Really curious as to that justification.

We don't require a signature. The client can confirm a file to print or advise of corrections any way they see fit. A simple email reply of "Ok to print" is sufficient.
