• How To Get Started Freelance

#1
Hi everyone. I apologize if this territory has been covered before, but I am new to the forum and wasn't able to find this information anywhere here. Anyway for my questions. I have been doing designs all of my life for the fun of it, for personal endeavors I'm involved in, or for friends and family. I am quite proficient using Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver and am trying to figure out how I might go about starting a part time freelance design business. I understand the graphics side of things, but not the business end. Is there a good resource for learning about the business? I realize that I can't just hang out a shingle and people will come calling. What advice can you give me in trying to start up and get customers? As I said this will be a part time thing, so I'm thinking of charging lower rates to start-is this a smart idea?

I appreciate any advice that you can offer. Thanks.

Take some classes, learn the industry, work hard, and intern somewhere
