  • Help!!! Quark 6 not compatible with 5!!

    #1
I am running Quark 6 on MacOSX. When I save the quarkfile as version 5, I can't open those files on Quark 5 on Mac OS9, it would say:

this file cannot be open by this version of QuarkXpress.

How can it make it compatible between Quark 6 on X and 5 on OS9?

    Thanks.

Wierd. Seems like when you save down to V5 it should work in OS9 because v5 doesn't work in OS X. Why do they have to make crap so difficult sometimes ;o)

What is the file name EXACTLY that it saves as when you save it for v5??

    Who says doodling isn't constructive?!

Yeah, DZ you may be onto something. Is the file name extra long? If it has more than 30-ish characters os9 won't recognize it.

The other prob might be if you used some of the new features of Q6 that don't backsave correctly.

I don't have Q6 up and running yet. Waiting for a comp upgrade so I don't have to talk to the schmoes at Quark when I need to move the program to a new machine.

That's good to hear Perm. Got a project coming in next week done in 6 saved to 5 and was wondering if I was gonna have to load 6 prematurely.

well, I am doing it to see the compatibility with V6 on OS10 and V5 on OS9. Maybe I don't have the latest 6 version or something like that. The filename is ok. It doesn't even show the correct icon on OS9. We are on a transition to 10, but most clients are still on 9.

            It just doesn't work.

You could try cahnging your file extension. Q6 uses .qxp (project) and Q5 uses .qxd (document)

This is probably too late to be of any use, but I found that this worked for saving back to quark 5 (for classic environment). Save as Version: 5 and then click on there again until the Type: "project" became "document". If you save as Version: 5; Type: project; then the icon shows up as Quark 6 not five. It has to be a document not a project. (This info is at the bottom of the window when doing a save as).

This is exacly how you do it. I have to hit version 5 twice in order for it to save down.

When saving down to Quark 5 - be sure that when you change from 6.0 to 5.0 that the bottom section that says "Type:" it says Document and not Template. This could give you a pro
