  • ID and wide format printing problems

    #1
I got a HP Deskjet 9800 wide format printer over the weekend to help with school projects. I have ID 2.0.

For some reason ID just cannot print on the "borderless" setting properly. Printing on the normal settings or on my other printer (Officejet 6110) turns out fine.

For this project I have a background image (basically just a generic cloudy blue from PS) but when I print it out the background gets chopped into boxes of various saturations of my blue, following my image frames in places. All the elements that do not touch the edge of the page are fine. It's getting frustrating, not to mention that the 11x17 gloss paper is very expensive and I went through like 4 sheets today!

I tried exporting to a PDF and printing from that, with the same result. I was able to redo the bigger project in PS and print from there fine, but now I'm working on a brochure and I don't want to have to beat the text into submission again. I opened said PDF in PS but the colors were all off so I didn't even try to print. I also rebuilt the blue background from scratch in case the file was corrupted...no go.

    Any help?

are you using drop shadows and the like in your document over your background?

Yes, there were two drop shadows (created in PS and imported). The brochure had quite a bit more--I was making artwork with Q-Tips and needed the depth.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's a transparency issue too, but don't know how to tell you to fix it on the printer you are using except for pdf which you say gives you the same result. Sorry.
Check your flattening settings and check out the link I gave in the Resource section to the white papers on printing transparency from Adobe products.

I was able to open the PDF of the brochure in PS last night without much color drama (colors actually looked a bit spiffier) so I printed from there. I'm loading the link you posted so I'm going to browse through there and see if it has the fix I need. I already tried upping the PDF compatibilty to the maximum with no luck (I've had similar problems before and that fixed it).

          Thanks for the help

Moo's cards are printed on HP indigos. Definitely a step up from "common" copier-based digital printing, and on the upper tier of digital printing, but if you could go for traditional offset...

            Buda edited it for you.
