Looking for a colour laser printer here, browsed through the sticky on printer reviews and am wondering if anyone here has any further advice. We are looking at a ticket price of about $1000 CAD (As of today the Bank of Canada tells us that it is worth $857.90 USD).

This is the bosses need list.
    - Colour laser
    - Capable of printing label and heavyweight paper
    - 8.5x11 with a decent printable area
    - Post script printer (implied?)
    - Network ready

This is the bosses wish list:
    - 12x18 printing
    - automatic duplexer

Speed is not a huge factor in the decision, although the cost of replacing the cartridges would be.

    Thanks in advance.

    Try tiger direct.

I don't think you'll get 12x18 for that price though.

One side question about the laser printers, when you are sizing up the things memory, does that effect the speed or does it also limit the size of files that you may output?

Thanks, I figured for a grand we would not touch a 12x18 printer either.

I'm not sure really. I know we never added RAM to our Minolta printer, so at most it has 128mb (but I think it has much less), and we've never had a problem w/ it.

we have two minolta Magicolor 7300 laser printers. Duplex is availible and they print up to 12x18. Although the duplexer only goes up to 11x17. These work well enough for us to do a lot of our pop displays inhouse, we have them finished out of house, mylar strip or trimming/punching, but we save a bunch of money.

You may have to try and find a used one though cause they go for 3.2k brand new...

or perhaps they make something with a little fewer bells and whistles...you'd have to look at the site tho

As well can anyone explain how the printer resolution works?
The ones we are looking at say 600x600dpi, not sure exactly what that means.
              Thanks.
