  • Let's play "Guess A Version"

    #1
Any other print guys have problems with not knowing the version number of the program a file was created in?

Driving us nuts trying to guess (sometimes it is not in Get Info). Is it so hard to write it somewhere? Even put something like v8 or v10 or CS in the name of the file?

Because of the way we handle color, at least here, we try to open in the same OS and the same program to avoid initial probs with color naming conventions.

    Help me.

Oh, how I wish I could give you some help!
We get most of our email/camera readies as pdfs which has at least cut down most of the problems we were having.
The few Quark files (and the very rare pagemaker docs) are always a HUGE headache between fonts not working, graphics not working and file version never mind if it's a PC file. Blech!
We ask for the most basic of information in an email, but can we get it, no way!
And don't even get me started on the people that, even after being told, send us a WORD DOCUMENT!
All student graphic designers, take note! Learn about pre-press!
Sorry, that just turned into a huge rant!

I open it a text or hex editor if I can't figure out what kind of file it is. There's usually info in the header.
