  • Questions on JPEG and RGB with regards to film output.

    #1
I have tried saving an CMYK Photoshop EPS with JPEG (max) compression for output. Result => greyscale.
I have tried saving an RGB Photoshop EPS with no compression (in binary) for output. Result => greyscale.

Is this like an unchangable law in prepress? or is there an option I missed?

There are times I did think I am careful enough not to use flightcheck.
But the more careful u think u are, you find out that there are ppl that are much more stupid.

    Conclusion >>> PPL are stupid!!!

well with that info I would try saving at a tiff or eps. cause it seems htat your device isn't getting the color info from the jprg format.

I could get it working by resaving it in to a EPS (binary). Just wanted to know what's the problem.

what result? You are saying that saving an EPS in PS to JPEG is causing it to go greyscale? Or print greyscale? If all you are doing is converting a file to a different format and it is turning grayscale its a very different issue then printing that color file and getting grayscale.

I assume you mean when it prints it is losing all color info? If that is the case then troubleshooting it would require more info about the output device and software (drivers, RIP, etc). If its a RIP system, many can be finicky when dealing with JPEGs, thats why many print houses would request that you make it a TIFF or EPS. (nowadays though the software can handle JPEG's alot better then several years ago)

so what Dakels is saying is that the problem is orgining from the RIP eh? Cuz I know the RIP I am using is old. Thx for the clear up!!

Try installing them with Fontbook, not by dragging them to a folder. Just a guess.

You can use muted tones, so a little less than black, muddy any clear colours a bit. As for eroding lines and fills, I'd probably stay away from it in vector files as it never looks quite right in vector....

Sorry, there's really no way to protect yourself without a signed contract. This is why a designer shouldn't do any work until it's signed. I guess you can put your samples on a spec sheet with terms...
