  • PMS Colors

    Need some help peoples.
I designed some logos and business cards for a client, he took it to press ( some online printing place)and the colors didnt match up when he got them back, so now the vendor is requesting exact PMS colors ( which I am assuming is Pantone matching System?)

My question:What is the Easiet way to find the PMS numbers?
    I really have no idea.

Also, are PMS numbers common when going to press, or does is just depend on the vendor?

pms is industry standard. 4 color offset will def need either the pms # or the color builds.

To find out what the pms colors are, you will need to tell us what program you are using and what OS. In ps its as easy as using the color picker, then hitting 'custom' and it will pick the closest match to a pms, for illy its a tad more difficult.

D-Frag I think the question is a little more basic than finding the PMS colors in a program.

MpiricL, Get a chip book. Or two. Or three. Solid to Process guide can be helpful too.

To access the color libraries in Illustrator go to Window>Swatch Libraries. You'll most likely want Pantone Solid Coated for coated stock or Pantone Solid Uncoated for uncoated stock. Please note that what you see on your screen will more than likely NOT match the chip in the chip book. But if it is spec'd the pressman will match it (the chip, not your monitor).
