I have a pdf supplied by customer to which I have added two logos. Pdf was supplied as spot colour but we now need to print in CMYK. Have added logos in Illustrator. . . then dropped file into Indesign to send to press. (Do this all the time!) The spot colour is coming down as the 'wrong' CMYK split and the black is also coming down as CMYK instead of black. I have reopened the file and changed the 'spot' to the 'right mix' and the black to black & resaved. But it keeps changing back to the wrong mix and CMYK black. I must be doing something obvious wrong. . .but I can't see it.

What is your colour profile set to in Illy?
Is the spot colour still present in your toolbar in Illy or Indesign?

      Do you have "PitStop"?

Spot colour is not there in either Illy or Indesign... I've changed the spot colour to CMYK.

        No - I don't have Pitstop. . .

When you export out of InDesign, go to Output and then choose "Convert to Destination Preserve Numbers"

          See if that helps.

Thanks - Audentia - brilliant! I have reset my colour profiles in both and it seems to have solved the problem. I am sure that they matched before but who knows!!

Strangely the business card pdf separated perfectly through Illustrator/Indesign before I changed the profiles.

Clients pay you to come up with ideas. They can select a designer based on their portfolio. That's what a portfolio is for. But shopping around for custom work and paying only if they use it is wrong....

The one I'm working on now is landscape.

The job I have now, I was told over 400 people had applied for it. There's a ton of competition out there. If you're passionate about it and never stop studying it, you can be good. Best way to get ahead...

Oh yes, left-hand binding. I'd never do it along the top. Awkward.

A flexible set-up for your portfolio will be more efficient in the long-term IMO. You will be able to customize your portfolio pieces to the sector for which you are applying.

                  FWIW, $140...

I would say landscape portfolios are pretty common. +1 for binding on the left-hand versus the top.

Demand? No. The market is over-saturated. Just curious, what is it about Graphic Design that interests you? Why do you think you want to pursue it?
