  • Multifunction printers/postscript issues

    #1
    First of all, greetings!

I am looking at buying a multifunction printer, specifically the Epson Stylus CX6600. I love the size and convenience of this machine especially because my home office (or lack thereof) is TINY. I don't really have room for a scanner, copier, and a printer.

But I'm getting very confused about the postscript problem. I'm running OSX. Is postscript really relevant anymore? Is it ridiculous for a graphic designer to buy a non-postscript printer? Can I buy software to avoid this problem? Do any of you have multifunction printers and want to comment on them?

Any replies will be appreciated. Thanks so much!

    Welcome to the forum.

    Might want to read this

    or

and google some more reviews on that unit or look at some of the others they suggest.
If the reviewers aren't liking the color of images, it may be difficult to produce any kind of accurate color proof on it.
Most of these all-in-ones are business geared, not designer geared.

As for postscript, it is VERY relevant.
You can print to a non-postscript printer using pdf (usually) and designers do use non-postscript printers.
    Software rips are expensive.
I'm one of those cantankerous old coots that hates all-in-ones. Repair is always expensive and if one thing goes, ya gotta buy a whole new unit.

PD is a grande format digital print dude. His advice/opinions may not apply to the 4color/offset/web world of printing
