  • Color Management Problem

    #1
I am having a strange problem with color output. I have, until 2 days ago gotten consistent color output from our Canon CLC 1150 (using a Fiery Z-60 RIP). Suddenly, All my prints come out too dark. I have calibrated my monitor, had service on the printer, replaced my Colorsync profiles, printer description files and reset my color management in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
My monitor displays the document(s) properly. If I send any of my files to one of the other designers, they print perfectly.
I know that I am probably missing something fundamental. I am working on a Macintosh G5. Help if you can.

    Thanks

you had the printer serviced after it's been having the trouble?

The problem pre-dates the service call. I experienced the problem first on Monday afternoon and called service for the printer on Tuesday.

Sounds like maybe a call to warranty might work, unless someone else here has the same model and the same problems.

I don't know about that model of printer, but the Canon we use here has a manual adjustment for the gradation level (on the LCD screen, which I'm assuming all of these Canon printers have). Perhaps monkeying with that might help until you find a more permanent solution.

You haven't recently started using a different brand of toner, have you? That might make a difference... but I'm not too knowledgeable about these things. Hope that's of some use, though...

The problem is that if I move the files to another computer and print from there, I get the results that I need. So, the problem appears to be in my computer and not in the printer.

When the problem started to show up and I confirmed that it wasn't the printer, I replaced color profiles and pdfs with originals and calibrated my monitor. So I remain...baffled.

              Oh, I see... Sorry, I must've misread.
Hmmm... If your colour profiles are all set up... That's puzzling.

My apologies, but I don't know what the problem would be.

Where are Broacher and PrintDriver when you need them? They'd probably know more...

I gave up and started printing without applying the printer profile (which previously resulted in a horrible print out) and now the output is close (but not quite as good as) to what I had previously been able to get. The mystery continues but, in the short term, at least I can get nearly acceptable quality.
