  • Inexplicable color shifting from Epson printer

    #1
I'm on a iMac OSX (10.5.8) with an Intel processor, working in Illustrator CS4 and I'm printing on an Epson R1900. I'm working on a project and have been using the same computer, same program, the same paper, the same printer, Epson brand ink cartridges (all full) and for some reason my prints are looking much lighter! I know there is some amount of color variation depending on how much ink is in the cartridges, but where they're all full, I would think the prints would tend to be DARKER not LIGHTER. Does anyone have any ideas of what might be causing the variation here?

    Thanks!

Double check your profile to see that nothing has changed in the print output box. The usual reason for light prints is to have a profile/paper mismatch.
The other thing that can change is the media/paper. While you may not have changed paper, your paper supplier may have. It doesn't take much to mess with those inks.

Thanks PrintDriver. Nothing changed in my print settings and I'm using the same big box of paper that was fine last week. This is crazy-frustrating!

It's colder than it was last week, but I can't think of anything else that could have changed.

        Have you cleaned your nozzles?

Yep! Cleaning nozzles, heads, aligned everything twice!

Just a thought have you inserted any new cartridges? Namely black? I think Epsons have photo black, matt black and regular black so if one was swapped for another, there would be a noticeable difference.

Hey, that's smart to check if the blacks cartridges got swapped, but it wasn't that. They were in the correct slots.

I'm thinking now that my nozzle/head cleaning could be more thorough even though I've done it 3 times. I have a few unwelcome white spaces in my colored checkerboard pattern and maybe I need to do more cleaning sessions until all the patterns look perfect.

I'm hoping that will solve my color problem. Fingers (and nozzles) crossed!

My big Epson won't allow inks to be installed in the wrong place. It does have 3 different blacks though, maybe those are interchangeable...

Actually it looks like you are using the 960.gs grid system. If my guess is correct, then the spacing between the all the heading tags and the paragraphs and numerous other elements is defined with...

Well overall it just looks better but not as good as the infographics usually are! It lacks the effective catchy attractiveness. You must have focused on the fonts and your colors pattern as well!
