Foil blocks

Not sure what you mean,... if you mean that Gold or Silver foil you see on paper etc then there are two ways

1. You can get Screen Printed or Litho but they say thats really expensive

2. A foil block I heard was the best, (I heard this when I was enquiring about Boxes), but the Block will cost you maybe £15-30 before you even start

I'm not an expert though...

many printers offer foil stamping and embossing. Often times, if you supply the printed piece they can just do the foil stamping for a lesser charge.

The print shop where I work did both flat foil and foil embossing. Flat foil required a "die" - which was like a metal "stamp" to stamp the foil in the right shape onto the piece.

Foil embossing also requires a "counter die" which presses into the piece from the back side to press the shape into the die.

To make the die for foil stamping, a printer can work from camera ready copy or an electronic file. Many have to order the dies, because they are not made in house, but by a specialty company. The larger the foil stamped area, the more expensive the die can be. And with embossing, you need to specify how many levels (heights?) of embossing there will be.

If it's a one off, you can get foil at a stationary store that adheres to laser toner. You print the product, then place the foil over the area to be shineyed up, and run it through the laser again. The heat transfers the foil to the printed area.

that's not expensive compared to sending it to a print shop! I have seen clients pay $800+ just for the die!

Yeah I know that, I just mean for the sheets, if you make a mistake like lol... I wonder what the quality's like?

thanks for your help guys, and sorry for the late reply i'm the other side of the globe so its really hard. I think i'll have a look in the yellow pages and check prices for specialist printers. But that sheet stuff sounds good for small runs.
