  • Xerox Phaser 7700 problem again........the maintence is unimaginable!!!

    #1
If anyone who have purchased a 7700 might feel the same way I do. Although each page only costs aroun 20 cents.....which it isn't most of the case......the toner for all 4 colours comes to an amazing $1000. Plus the cartiage....the Fuser....the Transfer roll....the waste bin......This is really frustrating.

Please do tell me there are alternatives!!!!

I had ppl tell me that they can't do re-fills for 7700's toners.......u.u!!

Someone please ********....and if nice enough....point me to the road of anti-corporate money sucking toners!!!

I would stay away from using replacement toner, yes it is cheep but once you switch you can never go back to using the OEM toner. and I have heard the quality of the printing goes down hill after the switch. I have a phaser 780 and I buy all of my consumables on ebay for a fraction of the cost.

I'd tell you, but then I'd have to bill you.

Is your printer off of warrany?

I have a Phaser 7700. I found and tried a refill toner that works just great - I'm placing my second order now. The black is a little dull - looks like a regular printer toner but the colours are fine.

I'll tell you but you have to let me know any sources for cheaper parts or supplies for it you find too!

What the heck are you doing replacing the wast bin? Just put in in a plastic bag and shake thegoop out of it - clean it up with a dry cloth and you're done.

The transfer roller - if your images are still acceptable, just reset the counter for a while till you can get a new roller or the images are crap..

The print cartridges will last quite a bit longer than their little counters say they will too - but you have to pull out the chips or replace or reset them. I haven't found a chip resetting solution that works, but I've had a few that reset themselves with a really strong magnet (Cathode Ray Tube!) - just doesn't work every time. Sometimes pulling the chips out oof one and putting them in another cartridge works. Tedious turning the printer off and on though. The image quality is a lot better with new print cartridges, but those suckers are expensive.

Cheap toner for the 7700 can be got by emailing george@cartridgerefill.com
he only sells 200 g bottles for $69 though so you're not getting HIGH capacity - you're getting the regular size. You'd have to buy 2 bottles ($138) to equal a high capacity cartridge (still cheaper though). The link posted in the post previous to this might be a better deal if they are high capacity toners.

Fusers - no getting around it - you gotta buy new fusers every time. Images go to hell fast if you don't. You could probably find a way to reset the chips on those too, but I wouldn't recommend it.

That the kinda info you were looking for?

Oh - and Mickey - I'm trying out Phaser 780 toner fom this guy too..$39 per bottle.. I don't have any resluts yet ..

        HI
I can't get my waste cartridge light to go out after emptying it. I've tried cleaning with dry paper towel all the apparent relevant surfaces it touches, off/on power repeatedly etc. How do I get my phaser 7700 to reset the installation date as new?

I don't have this particular printer so this may not solve your problem, but with the printer we have we are supposed to actually replace the waste cartridge with a new one instead of emptying it (sounds like a money-making scheme to me, but that's a different topic). Perhaps that's what you're supposed to do instead of just emptying it.

On our epson 9600 we have a waste tank that has a computer chip built in. When full it needs to be replaced not emptied.

hmmm... welll i've done it before and it seeems like it lets me do it one time but on the second time it always freeezes the printer up.

so there's no way to go into the NVM and reset the values?

We sometimes empty the cartridge if it's an emergency (printing rushed/time-sensitive items in-house), but Canon service doesn't really 'suggest it'. Works for us, but I don't know if we've ever had a situation where the printer rejected an emptied cartridge. We also have a lease contract for that printer, we just pay a monthly fee and all maintenance is included, so it's not like we have to shell out $ for the new waste cartridges. We generally just order new ones as we need them.

As far as resetting the values, I wouldn't know. Different printer.

I know this is an old thread but I was looking to buy some print cartridges and I see that the price has jumped up dramatically. I used to pay around $400-450 for a carton of 4 and now I see the price is over a grand. Can anyone shed some light on what's up? Is it just that the printer is becoming obsolete and so are the consumables?

Hey I might have found the solution to the 7700 Phaser. There is a cleaner stick that comes with the waste toner switch out package. I thought that cleaning out using the stick might be what triggers this thing to actually work. Make sure to clean out all the sections then put in the emptied waste toner cartridge. Tada! Light goes out and you are set to go.
