Commented to Transparency making pantone colour appear CYMKThe problem you're facing is one I face all the time. The easiest solution is to create a clipping path in photoshop. You haven't missed any steps, it all starts because transparencies and spot colours...

I seem to be having this issue with a transparent object placed over top of a solid pantone colour making the pantone colour under it convert to CMYK.

Commented to Barcode questionThere are other things to be considered with barcodes. I deal with them on a daily basis. Line width, quiet zones, and other factors play a big part in whether or not the code will scan.

From what the USPS rep told me, yes, as long as the contrast is high enough then the barcode reader should be able to read it fine... I've also found a few mentions online from people who've successfully...

can the barcode readers even read a 'reversed' code?
Most design specs I've seen show certain areas of the envelope that should be a percentage screen of color so the barcodes read.

Thanks a lot for the reply! Yes, I have spoken with a specialist at our local USPS and at the hub that qualifies mailings to meet USPS regulations. The USPS recommends that everyone use black printing...
