This may be a very silly question, but is there such a thing as free high res photos? Like...nice ones? Worth using?

              Thats not a bad list...

I would have to say www.sxc.hu would be the best for free stockphotos, but the images aren't as high res as they should be, Its great for web projects. If you do alot of print designs for brochures, flyers etc.. go to www.istockphoto.com its not free but its really inexpensive. Also worth the money.

                Hi
                Just about istockphoto:
What's about commercial uses for their images?
I mean to use them to put on t-shirts, mouse pads...
May yo give us some words at a glance?
                Thanks
                Marco

You can read the legal here http://www.istockphoto.com/legal.php

Its totally royalty free photos. I use the images for all my brochures, business cards, websites, just recently created a huge poster for a trade show event with the photos from Istockphoto.com

You just can't resell them. T-Shirts will be considered for resell, unless its for personal use. mouse same thing, anything that has to do with making money off the photos.

                  Regards,
                  -Carlos

I'm somewhat new to the graphic design business, and I'm trying to grow my archive of images that are free to both commercial and private use. All the websites seem to say this in part, but all I see when I'm ready to do some leeching is some price tags and restrictions attached. And they're usually damned expensive price tags... I'm not made out of money and I'm not in Bill Gates' will.

                          Help me. D:

Photographers have to make a living too.

Some of the subscription sites allow so many downloads for a small amount of money. I'm always suspicious...(of everything)... of the source on some of those sites. You really should get a print release to CYA but most people don't.

Otherwise, remember to price image sourcing into your quote and contract. And not just the cost of the use fee but also the time you figure it'll take to hunt up the image. If you know your sites, the hunt is usually short.
