One of the big "Ah Ha!" moments in art or design school is when the whole concept of negative space kicks in, along with the realization that it's been hiding in plain sight for years without...

What exactly do you mean by the negative and the positive shapes? As I said before I am not a professional. This is my first use of the Illustrator and a logo creation. Well don't count my old one that...

Okay, you took all my points and ran with them.

Your solution isn't exactly what I would have done, but then again, it shouldn't be. You might want to experiment around a bit more to refine...

  • Help with Arch on a border

    Hi,

I am trying to make a border like the orginal and just can't for the life of me do it? I am stuck, please help me. Probably really easy to do but I am still learning...

I have attached the example of the border I am trying to make.
I can't seem to get it right and can't find a generic border anywhere that matches it... it is arched at the top only and then the rest is square.

    thanks
    mags

What software & version are you using?
This post is brought to you by the letter E and the number 9. Those are the buttons I push to get a Twix out of the candy machine.

        Page 70 perhaps?

Or you could combine an arch shape (page 72) with a rectangle and smooth out the connection points.

I use Signlab. If you right-click on any line segment or point you get 9 options of things to do to it, change it to a curve being one of them. Don't know if Flexi is the same.

Wow, I'm glad I asked before I posted detailed instructions for Illustrator.

This is a very basic line art thing. That tombstone you pictured actually has a compound arch on it but I'm gathering you just want to bow the top?
What exactly are you stuck on? I'll see if I can find it in your Flexi manual for you.

Is it as simple as not knowing how to use Beziers? Page 90?
Or converting a segment into a curve? Page 95?
Or simply using the "Arch Top" Distort Effect? Page 120?

I hope to heck you downloaded that manual.
Now sit and play with it. Flexi (and Signlab) can do things in one click that take forever to accomplish in Illustrator. It'll take you about a week to learn the ins and outs.
