  • Looking for old Photoshop filter....

    #1
    Hey Guys and Gals,

I am looking for an old filter that pre dates Create Suite.

The filter is called Vortex Tiling.

The effect is to take a flat image and transform it into a cylinder and you can adjust the vanishing point. It is a pretty cool effect.

This filter was not part of the Photoshop program filters it was an add on. I have been searching for a long time and have not found the filter. Nor have I found a tutorial that teaches this effect.

    Can anyone help out

That wasn't a native Photoshop filter, it was a plug-in designed by Kai Power Tools. I'm not sure if they're even around still.

I believe it's called Hyper Tiling now and KPT has it in a filter pack for $99

Kai's Power Tools.. wow. I remember playing with the first version of that before the turn of the millenium. Old-school stuff.

I would say landscape portfolios are pretty common. +1 for binding on the left-hand versus the top.

Demand? No. The market is over-saturated. Just curious, what is it about Graphic Design that interests you? Why do you think you want to pursue it?

Used the pen tool to create strokes as the outline, then once it was time to tidy up, i converted them all into shapes. Was this a bad idea? there also is white areas for instance on the jacket, it's...

Honestly, from where I'm standing, there is no demand for more designers. This isn't to freak you out, but I think schools recruiting for your dollar may tell you otherwise.

How did you create this shape?

You are right, it looks like there are loads of unnecessary shapes on this file. Are some shapes made from expanding strokes? It maybe a case...

You can try Object > Path > Simplify, but that may not be able to get you down to a reasonable number without altering your image. It looks like you have a ton of separate objects on there. Try...

I prefer landscape. Are you binding on the left side or at the top?

While I prefer landscape, I prefer left handed binding. I find turning upwards cumbersome.

Thanks, those examples are very helpful. I was thinking the auto trace likeness also. I will try cleaning it up and giving more hair shape. I was wondering if anybody uses plugin for illustrator to help...
