  • Art/Design movies

Art/Design movies, but not just straight up art/design movies, you can contribute any movie that you feel is relevant to the those categories-I don't have an example, but hopefully you know what I mean......

Milton Glaser: To Inform & Delight

    Here's the intro

I'm watching it now on Netflix, I watched part of it before and I like the things he says about drawing in the video, it's not just about graphic design.

        Sketches of Frank Gehry

I saw this film in my architecture class; What I liked about it was Frank's process, it's very different the way he makes decisions, even if it's a different field than graphic design, his approach is unique, it makes me think about my own

I just like his buildings, the textures, the materials, the organic shapes, the collections of forms he puts in buildings

First ones I thought of when I saw the words "art/design movie" was Surviving Picasso & Pollack. More of the art side though. :9

The Silence Before Bach. But it's not out on DVD yet. There are clips in YouTube.

Since no one has mentioned any not completely design related movies
                  Art school confidential
Eating buccaneers - it's a cheesy Canadian movie but illustrates advertising office relationships pretty accurately
Stranger than fiction -not about art or design, but design/gui plays an integral role in the film
                  Design is not decoration.

Nothing in Common with Tom Hanks and Jackie Gleason - one of my favorites. It's a father/son relationship movie, but Hanks' character works in advertising and the view into that world was one of the things that pushed me to pursue a creative career. Worth a rent.

Also, there isn't much advertising without a designer's touch, here are some movies with not-so-subliminal advertising:

It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?" Winnie the Pooh

I never did see that. Although I like Terry Zwigoff, my experience with Ghost World was a bit of a let-down, as I was a big fan of the comic book story (so I had a "the comic book was better" reaction). I was afraid another Clowes/Zwigoff collaboration would be more of the same. I may have to rent it and find out.

That was great, I watched it a while ago and couldn't remember the name for this.

Art School Confidential, just threw me back into my first year of art school, before I even considered design as a viable career path.
