there are some good stock photo sites referenced in the resources section... there's a little tab near the top of the page.
I like www.sxc.hu and www.morguefile.com myself!

thanks!
yeah, i saw the resource list. i know about plenty of stock photo sites and the like. i am more curious about subscription service sites (where you pay an annual "membership" fee and have access to their catalog).

I come across ads for lots of these in MacDesign magazine, but haven't actually tried any of them yet... I guess I'm still a little too small scale for that yet!
Welcome to the forum! I'm sure someone with some more experience in this area will be along soon!

I use PhotoSpin (in fact, that's where the beer bottles from the 'You get what you pay for' thread in the Soapbox forum came from). I think it's about $150-250 a year (I don't pay it). They came highly recommended from other print shops, but I think they're 'okay,' it really depends on what you're trying to look for. Sometimes I can't find something I have in mind.

Photos.com is pretty darn good for the money. give it a one month try though before you spend for a longer subscription. I always find workable stock photos there.

You cant go past Interactimages.com. I have used them for the last 6 months. They give an annual subscription rate of $19.99 and you get about 40,000 pics all high res. (20in @ 300dpi).
They are upgrading their server and it looks like they will offer a sh*t load more images soon.
sxc.hu is good, but their photos are all smaller than 2MB....too small for most of my print work.

shutterstock is pretty good, I havent tried buying them but i do submit photos to the site. you can download 750 per month, which works out at aroun $0.18 an image. Although, if you dont download large amounts it would be a lot cheaper to use dreamstime, istock etc.

Commented to New engine and layout on Graphic Design Forum1. The nested comments seem kind of cool at first, but it seems like it will be easy to miss new comments easily since they can be added anywhere in a thread. Obviously if using the latest activity view...
