Are you a student of design?
Did you create this in Photoshop?

Can you give us more about your thought process?

The top and bottom elements seem unnecessary. Also gradients are never really a good idea in a logo.

If this logo is going to be viewed on screen ONLY, then the gradients aren't as big of a deal. However, this logo is more vertical than it is horizontal which is not ideal for the web. When you think about a website, typically the logo is placed at the top of the header, which is much wider than it is taller.

Those top and bottom pieces are there because it's (supposed to be) a treble clef:

But you would be correct to point out that their small size and detached orientation contribute to the failure to bring it home.

Obviously, the OP's logo violates many of the rules we generally hold to competent, application-accountable logo design. I imagine the "it's only for the Web" argument might crop up in this case; valid or otherwise.

It's not clear whether "the project" is the web site, the logo, or the latter as part of the former, but it's yet another instance of a logo posted for critique; framed as a (school?) project; with absolutely nothing offered in the way of context or background.

I like it, however the gradients, like others have said, might be a bit complicated especially in print. Also, the bits on the top and bottom dont really have the same "weight" to them, they seem kind of tacked on without feeling like a piece of the larger picture.
          Great work!

Thank you so much for your input. What you said about Joomla templates basically dictating the look and feel of the site is basically the reason I've held so long to my current site. I have not found...

Reply to Price of Foil vs. Varnish for business cards?
Keep in mind the cost of the tooling the dye is a one time cost. The next lot of cards wont include the tooling cost.
StudioMonkey is also correct of the cost vs. your volume. 100 cards may run...

Joomla is my CMS of choice. For that matter, I'm working on some template modifications for a Joomla site this morning.

For a small personal site, Joomla might be overkill. It's certainly...
