Here is the final on a poster I did for this program (you might remember the logo, designed that as well). this is to be put up around different places to help recruit students into the program. The response card will be glued on in the lower right corner (padded). Stock is nive. Like an 80lb cover gloss. It will be scored and then folded in quarters for storage. The proof looked sharp.

Looks great Joe. The logo turned out really well! Another thing...I love what you did in the background, instead of making a solid color back there or a bad gradient...this looks good! So good to see green and NOT ANY RED! YAYYAY ) My boss wants me to use red all the time...pfffft! LOL

      Nice work )

      Who says doodling isn't constructive?!

I was limited with the logo cause they like it Cyan. so I had to be careful with the BG but still make it noticable. thanks for the compliments. I like how it turned out. Good portfolio piece.

Looks nice Joe.... though imho, it screams 'this was done for the state'

                    ha ha

Nice piece, just looks like it really fits with all the other 'nice pieces' that I see in state work. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing it. Trust me, I've done TONS of pieces for my current employer that i think have the same kind of feel to them.

I think you've chosen an incredibly difficult subject for this style of illustration, for a beginner. Something that could more easily be posterized and broken down into 3 or 4 values would be a good...

Clients pay you to come up with ideas. They can select a designer based on their portfolio. That's what a portfolio is for. But shopping around for custom work and paying only if they use it is wrong....

The job I have now, I was told over 400 people had applied for it. There's a ton of competition out there. If you're passionate about it and never stop studying it, you can be good. Best way to get ahead...

Oh yes, left-hand binding. I'd never do it along the top. Awkward.

A flexible set-up for your portfolio will be more efficient in the long-term IMO. You will be able to customize your portfolio pieces to the sector for which you are applying.

                          FWIW, $140...

I would say landscape portfolios are pretty common. +1 for binding on the left-hand versus the top.
